Abortions have been available for many years. They have recently become very popular with people’s interest in sex. United States citizens have their own different opinions on the topic of abortion. Some states question whether abortion clinics should be banned or not. In Ohio, laws were passed so that abortion clinics were not prohibited. Some people oppose this law. I personally, do not believe that abortion centers should be banned in Ohio because it is the baby’s mother’s choice whether or not to terminate the pregnancy.I do not think that the option of abortion clinics should be taken away completely, yet I do not fully support the idea of abortion.
There are various reasons why abortion is not supported by citizens in Ohio. Abortion is expensive and some people feel that it is not worth the price they pay. In addition, many abortion clinics rely on taxpayers’ money, which raises the taxes of the general public. Higher taxes make many people unhappy.Another reason is that all life is sacred and should not be taken away from an innocent baby. These people feel that abortion is murder and is against God’s word as well. Growing up as a Christian, I believe that abortion is against what is taught in the Bible. Nonetheless,I know that not everyone has the same beliefs, or practices the same religion that I do. The abortion process may be unsafe and is sometimes ineffective. The removal of the baby from the mother’s womb can be dangerous and sometimes the baby will stay alive through the process. Also, the thought of killing a baby is unpleasant and the mother could always be haunted by the thoughts of being a murderer. Joe Messerli claims, “Many women who have had abortions in their younger years end up living the rest of their lives in perpetual guilt” (Messerli). I agree with the author’s point of view. Women who have abortions may feel guilty for giving up the baby that they could have raised themselves. People never know if their child might grow up and be very successful and even famous and they are just wrecking the chances.Abortion might be, however, acceptable in some cases.
If abortion centers were banned in Ohio, society would be very different. Without the killing of these fetuses, there might be too many people on the Earth. If the help of abortions was unavailable, there might not be enough space for all of these people to live in Ohio. Furthermore, if abortion centers were prohibited in Ohio, women would feel compelled to travel to other states to receive abortion services. Because of the reasons stated above, the chance of abortion centers being completely banned is very unlikely.
On the contrary, I gave a few reasons why abortion might be supported by the residents of Ohio.Furthermore, terminating a pregnancy can save a pregnant teenager from public embarrassment. Aborting a baby can also prevent unwanted children in an unstable home.“Some poor single mothers might want an abortion if they do not have enough money to raise a baby” (Mendoz). Abortion prevents a rape survivor from further suffering as well. For example, each time the mother looks at her child she would see a part of the rapist in the child. “Another reason for stopping a pregnancy would be if the mother is a student. An infant would interfere with the mother’s studies” (Mendoz). The pregnant woman may possibly be having complications during pregnancy. Joe Messerli said, “Carrying and delivering a baby can be painful & dangerous to the mother, and a number of complications can develop”(Messerli). If the mother’s health is at risk during pregnancy, abortion could save her life. Although there is only a chance that the baby would receive the disease, if the mother doesn’t want to pass AIDS or HIV to the baby she could get an abortion. Messerli’s opinion supports my ideas. Having a baby can put the mother’s health at risk. It might be in the mother’s best interest to have an abortion so that she can live a healthy life. Abortion could be positive in some situations.
I feel that there are certain situations in which a woman should choose abortion. Rape and incest would be some examples. The mother’s or baby’s health would be another reason. However, I don’t think abortion is correct all of the time because it is very expensive and innocent babies do not deserve to be slaughtered. Overall, the choice of abortion should depend on the condition of the baby’s mother. I believe that abortions are sometimes necessary; therefore, abortion clinics should not be banned in Ohio.
