The restaurant I selected was Inchin’s Bamboo Garden. It is located at 5106 Great Northern Mall, North Olmsted, Ohio, 44070. I visited there on Thursday, November 29th, 2012. This restaurant serves a combination of Indian and Chinese food. I ordered the Sesame Chicken, my friend Hannah ordered Lo Mein, and my other friend, Sarah, ordered the Vegetable Hakka Noodles. I have reviewed the overall quality of Inchin’s Bamboo Garden restaurant according to cleanliness, service, food, price, and wait.
This restaurant is easy to find since it is in a large building with big letters on the front of it. However, the letters do not light up at night, so it is quite hard to see in the dark. Bamboo Garden is located between Best Buy and China Wall Buffet on the strip mall near Great Northern Mall. The type of cuisine that is served here is a mixture between Chinese and Indian foods. Bamboo Garden is a fine dining restaurant. The prices for a main course meal are moderate, between ten and twenty dollars. Appetizers are between four and fifteen dollars and desserts are between five and ten dollars. One is expected to dress ranging from casual to dressy to eat at this restaurant.
The music played at the restaurant was Christmas music. One complaint I have about his particular restaurant is that I heard the restaurant’s phone ring once, and all of the customers could hear it as well. Inside the restaurant, the walls were painted yellow, and there were Aztec designs on them. Wooden figures such as bows and arrows covered the walls as well. The floor was a burnt orange color and was made from linoleum. The decorations were of Indian and Chinese culture. There was a statue of an Asian man on a pedestal in the center of the dining area, and there was a waterfall right as I walked in the doors. There were dark colored wooden tables that had light yellow napkins folded into pyramids on them. Chinese New Year placemats had also covered the tables. One strange thing I had noticed was that there were not any knives at the table. There were three different flavors of Bamboo Garden hot sauces in the center of every table. Some of the larger tables had woven wooden dividers between them for privacy. The customers that Bamboo Garden usually attracts are couples on dates and families. Many of the customers were also of Indian or Asian descent.
The staff at Inchin’s was very friendly. However, there was only one waitress, and she was busy serving, cleaning the tables, and being the hostess. The server had forgotten to ask us if we wanted anything to drink besides water and if we wanted dessert. Nonetheless, the service was very quick, and it only took about fifteen minutes for the chef to cook our food. The waitress did explain what some of the unfamiliar items on the menu were. I had asked what something called “tadka” was and she explained to me that it is a mixture of fried garlic and onions that is commonly used in Indian dishes. She also cleared the place settings at our table that were not in use. The server was very courteous and asked us if we wanted separate checks and if we wished for boxes for our leftover food at the end of our dining experience. She gave us carry out boxes and plastic bags to put them in along with a fortune cookie for each of us.
I feel that the items on the menu at Bamboo Garden are unique. The appetizers are small portions of food usually on a bed of lettuce or spinach. Many of the appetizers also include soup and egg rolls. The entrees include Indian and Chinese delicacies. There is a separate menu for each of the ethnic groups. The portion sizes are decent, and they vary on the dish. Some of the menu items include vegetables and white rice as a side dish. Desserts included at Bamboo Garden are vanilla ice cream, with either date pancakes or lychees, or chocolate spring rolls. The waitress informed me that lychees are small, red, leathery fruits from China. Beverages found on the menu at Inchin’s Bamboo Garden include wine and various teas. The hours of operation for this restaurant are: Monday through Thursday 11:30 am-9:30 pm and Friday through Sunday 12 pm-10:30 pm. They offer lunch and dinner items and catering.
The dishes that we ordered at Bamboo Garden were very delectable. My Sesame Chicken was mouth-watering, juicy, and served hot with a side of White Rice. My plate had nearly a six inch radius and was circular. The Lo Mein was very flavorful. It contained many spices and a teriyaki flavored sauce. These noodles were served on the same sized six-inch plate and were hot as well. The Vegetable Hakka Noodles were savory. Between the freshly cooked vegetables and the perfectly cooked tangy noodles, this dish was delicious. The Hakka Noodles were served in a bowl that was larger than both of my hands and in addition, they were served hot.
I enjoyed the restaurant because it was different than what I am used to. I liked the cultural decorations that were placed around the restaurant. The food was gourmet and well priced. The tangy Chinese flavors blended well with the Indian spices. I would go back to this restaurant because it was not flooded with people and the service was fast. Next time, I would invite my family to eat there because it is a very family friendly place to be.
I have rated this restaurant by awarding up to ten points to each of five different categories. The five categories I chose to grade this restaurant on are: cleanliness, service, food, price, and wait. The cleanliness category was given nine points for clean tables and chairs, except for a few dirty spots on the walls. The service was awarded six points for generosity towards the customers. However, the waitress had forgotten to ask us, the clients, some important questions such as if we wanted beverages and dessert. The food was granted ten points for gourmet, luscious food that was bursting with flavor. The price was presented with nine points because the food was accurately priced for the quality and portion sizes of the meals. The wait was given nine points because there was not a line to be seated. However, since there was only one waitress, my friends and I had to wait a minute for her to serve a table before she seated us. After calculating the total, I concluded that Bamboo Garden earned an eighty six percent. This restaurant earned a B grade for its outstanding food and decent service along with many other factors that I have explained above
There were quite a few changes that I made while writing the restaurant review on Inchin’s Bamboo Garden. I made changes resulting from Smarthinking, peer reviews and my own changes. I think I was very successful in identifying and making these edits. Smarthinking helped me to write a thesis statement, to organize my work, and to use commas properly. For example, my original thesis statement was: I have reviewed the overall quality of Inchin’s Bamboo Garden restaurant. After reading what my Smarthinking instructor had to say, I stated my topic and focus in the thesis statement. My new thesis statement is: I have reviewed the overall quality of Inchin’s Bamboo Garden restaurant according to cleanliness, service, food, price, and wait. The peer revisions assisted me in deleting repeated words, adding more detail, and changing around some words. I noticed that I was starting nearly every sentence with the word “the” when I received my paper back from the peer editors. After making the Smarthinking and peer revisions, I reread my essay and made some changes that I thought would positively impact my paper. I originally had many sentence fragments that I had noticed after rereading my essay. My first rough draft was too short so I added a few more sentences. Also, I had forgotten to add my rating system at the conclusion of the review.
